Business Days Calculator
Count the business days in a period, or find the date a number of business days after or before a start date. Choose whether Saturdays and Sundays are days off, and add holidays as excluded dates.
How business days are counted
A business day is a day that is not a day off. This calculator removes these days:
- Days off in the week: you choose whether Saturday and Sunday are days off. Both are days off at first. If you work on Saturdays, clear the Saturday box.
- Excluded dates: holidays and other closures, which you add one date at a time.
An excluded date that falls on a day off is not counted twice. For example, if you add a Saturday as an excluded date and Saturday is already a day off, that Saturday is removed once. Excluded dates outside the period do not affect the result.
The workweek differs from place to place and from business to business (a reference article says it depends on local customs, religions and business operations). This calculator only offers Saturday and Sunday as days off. A week with a different weekend, for example, cannot be set directly. In that case, add the days off as excluded dates, or count calendar days with the Date Difference Calculator.
Business days in a period
The calculator counts the business days from the start date to the end date. The end date is always counted. The start date is counted by default; choose "Do not include it" to leave it out.
For example, from Monday, October 19, 2026 to Friday, October 30, 2026 is 12 calendar days, of which 2 are weekend days, so there are 10 business days. October 1 to October 31, 2026 has 22 business days, or 21 if you add Monday, October 12 as an excluded date.
The date N business days after or before
The calculator counts days that are not days off, starting from the start date. The start date is not counted: counting begins on the next day (the previous day when counting backward). The start date may itself be a day off.
For example, 5 business days after Friday, October 23, 2026 is Friday, October 30, 2026, because the weekend in between is skipped.
About holidays
This calculator does not know any public holidays. Add the holidays of your country, region or company as excluded dates. Holidays are set by law or by an employer, and some move from year to year, so check the official calendar or your contract for the dates.
Things to know
- Dates from January 1, 1900 to December 31, 2100 can be entered. A period can be up to about 100 years (36,525 days). The number of business days can be 0 to 10,000.
- If the start date is later than the end date, the two dates are swapped and a note is shown.
- You can add up to 200 excluded dates. Adding the same date twice counts it once. The dates you add are cleared when you reload the page.
- Companies and agencies differ in their closures. For important dates such as payment due dates and deadlines, check the contract or the company's rules as well.
- To count every day as a business day, clear both the Saturday and Sunday boxes. To count only calendar days, the Date Difference Calculator is simpler. To add or subtract calendar days, months or years, use the Date Calculator.

The definition of a business day follows Wikipedia, "Business day": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_day (read on November 1, 2026): "A business day normally means any day except a legal holiday", and the workweek "depends on the local workweek which is dictated by local customs, religions, and business operations". It is an explanatory article, not a standard. The calculation rules above (which days are counted) are this tool's own settings.
Frequently asked questions
How do I count business days without weekends and holidays?
Keep Saturday and Sunday as days off and add the holidays in the period as excluded dates.
Is the start date counted when I add 5 business days?
No. Counting starts on the next day, and the 5th business day counted is the result.
Should the start date be included in "Business days in a period"?
By default it is included. Include it to know which business day of the period a date is; leave it out to count the business days after the start date.
What if only Sunday is a day off?
Clear the Saturday box. Only Sunday will be treated as a day off.
